Size Comparison

We were getting the M&Ms ready for the day and the M&Ms were both laying in the crib in just their diapers. Mike and I were taken back by the size difference between them. Thankfully Mikey is the larger of the two hahaha. Despite the size difference they both seem to be growing great but we will know more next week at their 4 month check up.. how exciting!

Mikey was 16.2 pounds last week when i took him to Dr.S for his reflux and when i got on the scale w/ Michaella she was between 14 & 15 pounds. Mikey is clearly much taller than Michaella though its hard to see in the pics. His hands and feet are MASSIVE where as Michaella's are dainty and feminine. Though Mikey is heavy i think for 3 months i would by no means call him fat he is EXTREMELY solid unfortunately Michaella is a little chubadutes.. but she makes chubby look ADORABLE! They seem to be growing like bean sprouts and its something new and amazing everyday.

They may be twins but they are certainly two different kids. Michaella was born w/ VERY dark hair and it looks like its coming back in dark (she lost most of it the last few weeks). She has the bluest eyes and definitely wears the pants in this house. Mikey is much more reserved but a giant mama's boy to say the least. He has always had Mike's color hair (light brown) and he appears to have either green/hazel eyes or they may be turning brown. Even their skin tone and complexion is totally different. Michaella doesn't have olive skin but she has a darker complexion and never had baby acne. Mikey is a little lighter skin toned and has had bouts of acne and other tiny blemishes.

When we are out and about many people say "ohh they look so much a like" I honestly don't see it?!?!? To me they couldn't be more different. They are fraternal twins (hence the boy/girl) they are no more alike that a normal brother and sister they just happen to share mommies tummy.

TO me they are night and day and i cant get over how much they are changing and growing everyday. Well you be the judge for yourself maybe i just have mommy vision...

They may appear to be the same length in this picture but if i had to guess Mikey is probably 2 inches if not more longer than Michaella

I feel so blessed to have TWO beautiful healthy happy babies. God is so amazing! They are the center of my universe and some days it may be hard and i wonder what 1 baby would be like... but i would never trade this for the world. Its amazing to see how you raise 2 children relatively the same and they can be 2 totally separate people. I know they are boy/girl but they couldn't be more different if i tried to make them that way. It just shows that God is awesome and from day one they were born with amazing little fun personalities. Every night i lay in bed after tucking them in a wonder what they will be like when they are 1...5... 16... or 25. I love this its like an amazing movie that just goes on and on and never stops it gets better everyday and all the new twists and turns keep you enchanted. You wonder what could possibly be around the next bend and how could things get any better. But things get better everyday and new exciting adventure happen every day. Even if God said to me today i will let you see into the future to see what your kids will be like i don't think i would... this ride is wayyyyy too much fun i don't want to spoil the ending!!!!!!

Just catching up...

A lots been going on since we checked in last!!!! Mommy and the kids went and visited g-ma & g-pa for what was supposed to only be a few days but the blizzard from H*LL hit twice!!!! A few days turned into 2 weeks! But we had a ton of fun and mommy REALLY enjoyed the help!

During those 2 weeks it seems like the M&M's blossomed. Michaella became very fond of her thumb and FINALLY started sleeping through the night YEAHHHH!!! Both Mikey and Michaella found their hands and really started to use them well. Mikey was even getting the hang of grabbing his little froggy on his bouncy seat and pulling the string to make the music play. And Michaella was very excited to start grabbing at things and making them move. Michaella became quite the cutie also... smiling and giggling at everyone! Mikey smiles and giggles but has become the talker in the family. He had great joy in telling g-ma and g-pa stories and laughing when they would talk back to him. He even told daddy a few stories over the phone.

The first day was a long day between packing and driving but the M&Ms did great. They slept most of the ride and took to the new digs pretty well. Unfortunately mommy thought the M&Ms would do well sleeping in their positioners again but she was terribly wrong. The M&Ms had gotten very use to their own cribs and being able to wiggle in their sleep. Sadly mommy got ZERO sleep the 1st night out of fear they would wiggle themselves out of the positioners or into each other. The next day G-ma and mommy took Michaella to target to buy some pack and plays while g-pa and Mikey man hung out. They slept much better for the rest of the trip.

On what was supposed to be one of the last days of our little trip mommy had some friends and family over to see the M&Ms. Now that the rugrats are 3 months it was time they star wearing big boy and girl outfits during the day. No better time than when company to test drive the new cuuuuttteee outfits mommy and daddy bought at Carters. It was mommy's 1st time putting tights on Michaella it was ruff at first but Michaella did great and looked adorable. Mikey was sporting his first pair of big boy pants w/ a zipper and all. The M&Ms were not so fond of all the company and went into hibernation mode hahahaha they literally slept all day and when mommy was finally able to wake them that night after everyone left they were CRANKY babies... now i know never to have that much company at once!!!

Finally after the 1st big storm g-ma, mommy, Mikey, Michaella & Chris decided to venture out for a walk around the mall and some shopping. The M&Ms did great and Chris was a super big help the whole time! While at g-ma's and g-pa's theM&Ms had many 1st!! They saw cartoons for the 1st time, slept through the night, ate out at a diner, and the biggest of all had to be Mikey's first taste of cereal!! While away Mikey's reflux was acting up a bit and mommy called and left a message for Dr. S to see if there was anything she could do. Dr.L called mommy back and said a little rice cereal 1x day might help a little. SO mommy rushed out before big storm #2 hit to buy rice cereal and some spoons!! Mikey did awesome and LOVED the extra food in his belly (check out the video below).

2 storms later it was finally time to get home... everyone missed daddy and daddy had been working hard at home around the house (finishing off the basement) and shoveling paths in the backyard so the pups could go potty!!! It was good to be home but had a ton of fun at g-ma's and g-pa's and miss them very much!!!

Time to get caught up!!!

Where has the time gone. I guess we have been so busy that i havent had much time for pictures or blog updates... sorry!

The M&Ms are doing amazing. Growing like bean sprouts. Mikey has officially outgrown #2 diapers (we found this out today when daddy was holding Mikey Man trying to calm him down and I asked dad why he was all wet... yup Mikey wet through the diaper, outfit and onto dad) Michaella has really come out of her shell recently. She is the queen of smiles and has recently found Gods version of a Paci.... her THUMB!!! She actually will spit her paci out to put her thumb in her mouth. For as upset as i am at the thought of her being a thumb sucker the rest of me is EXTREMELY pleased by this b/c since she found her thumb (about 2 weeks ago) she has slept through the night solid!!!! Now if Mikey could just master the thumb sucking or finding his paci in the middle of the night hahaha! But more on that in my next post... here are some pics i wanted to share but didnt have the time to get to it. ENJOY!!

They still need to work on thier head control but they like it for short periods and it gives mom a few minutes of rest ... so some strategically placed blankets and its off to have fun!

Mikey and Michaella have been growing in leaps and bounds!! This means play time gets more exciting everyday. They are awake longer and trying new things everyday. For instance just the other night i put a rattle in their hands and they were able to hold it... now i am sure they didn't mean to shake it but the joy the had when they saw this fun thing waving around in their hand. If that wasn't exciting enough now when they lay on their play mat they bat at the toys hanging from it instead of just staring at them. And just the other night Michaella reached up and grabbed one of the toys and held on to it... Mikey on the other hand bats and kicks at the toys full force and gets such joy when he connects with them (typical boy).

They also LOVE the toys Santa brought them for Christmas especially when mommy is running around the den singing and dancing for them... so do they really love the toy or just their crazy mommy???

On days that we are in a good mood and full of energy (usually in the morning) we give our bumbo seats a try and enjoy the world from a sitting position. This works their necks out and gets their poor head a rest from being on something all the time. Then usually after an hour or two of playing they get stressed out and need some down time. This is where they will lay in their crib and watch their trippy mobile... kicking, swinging and cooing till its time for a nap.

Everyday its something new and exciting... i cant wait to share many more pics of many more firsts!!

Poor Little Belly Button

I noticed a few days after the M&Ms turned 2 months old that Mikey's belly button was oozing. After further investigation i noticed a bulb of skin inside his belly button. I called the pediatrician's office and they suggested having him come in and get looked at. Mikey and mommy had their 1st solo date and went to see Dr.H that afternoon. Mikey was a really good boy in the car and was FASSSTTT asleep by the time we got to the doctors office. They weighted my chuncky monkey and he was 12.2 pounds!!!! Getting big fast!

Anyhoo...the doctor looked at his belly button and said he had an "umbilical granuloma" which is a piece of tissue that remains after the umbilical cord falls off. This tissue can ooze and become irritated. The treatment was some silver nitrate applied to the granuloma. The pediatrician we saw that day was not our normal doc and she apparently didn't know how paranoid i am b/c she never warned me what would happen to his poor little belly button. The pediatrician did tell me his skin would get stained and look yucky but nothing to worry about... she failed to leave an important disclaimer out!!! Apparently silver nitrate can cause a chemical like burn where its applied, but i found this out the next morning when it looked like poor Mikey had 2nd degree burns all around his belly button. Obviously i ran and called the pediatrician. The calmed my fears and told me it was normal and how to care for it.

Dr. H said that id it was still oozing by next week to call them and bring Mikey in for an additional treatment. A week later his belly button looked slightly better but still oozing and the granuloma was still there... so in again we went. This time we saw Dr.S and Mommy and Mikey were very happy. Dr. S said 1 more treatment and "Mikey Man" (that's what Dr.S calls him) will be just fine. So another round of silver nitrate (this time more carefully applied to limit the amount of unnecessary burns) The nurses suggested letting air get to the belly button to help dry it up and keep the oozing from staying wet and icky and instead turning it hard and crusty so it would fall off. So for a day or so after the treatment Mikey had to sport a not so flattering look!!!! (all that kept running through our heads is "fat man in a little coat" hahahaha!!) Its hard to see but he is healing nicely and just this morning all the scabs were gone and the granuloma is nearly gone and Mikey is back to sporting a better look.

After our morning bottle we have some play time before the morning nap. We started in our bumbo seats... Michaella decided that wasn't exciting enough for her. Where as Mikey found his seat just fine!!

The M&Ms were getting ready for bed when they turned toward each other and it was so cute to see them see each other for the 1st time. They just layed there and stared at each other for like 10 min!!! too cute!
